I missed all of my sister's 20's
by Crumpet ini think my sister is 29 today.
that means due to this vile cult i missed all of her 20's.
so desperately sad that a religion can break family ties this way.

Just a brief update
by Joe Grundy ini've been away from the board for a while, and just wanted to give an update.. i met a lady via another board who had concerns that her 'boyfriend's' young daughter was being sucked into the dubs.
i responded to her concerns and thanks to many of the posters here (including some who were in direct contact) that danger seems to have been averted for the time being at least.. during the course of my conversations with the lady we became close.
i went back to the uk early in january and met her for a couple of weeks.

During the course of my conversations with the lady we became close. I went back to the UK early in January and met her for a couple of weeks. Half of that time was spent in an isolated farmhouse in Northumberland cut off from the outside world by a swollen impassable ford, with only log fires to keep us comfortable.
The upshot is that I move back to the UK tomorrow, as we both agree that being together is more important than where we are geographically. We have to decide where to live, etc., but all that will be sorted out as necessary.
Also on the update front, my JW neighbours had a son a couple of days before Christmas. And are already back into the 5 meetings a week mode, with Mum and Dad both looking exhausted.
Many thanks to all for all of the welcome, good advice and that sort of stuff.
And to cabin-in-the-woods - Bloody Hell, girl! Keep it up!

Is your avatar you?
by Swamboozled ini always assume that people with real pics for their avatars are pics of that poster.
obviously that's not always the case.
i'm curious about whose pic is really them.

Yes, but the hair is a little longer, the beard and uniform have gone and nowadays I smile sometimes.

I have a question for Scully...
by james_woods ini was just wondering why you always put tm on words that the wts have hijacked for their nefarious purposes.... is it just to point out the stupidity of the "newspeak" or do you actually think they might try to sue you for plaigerism?.
surely they could not start a case just because an apostate happened to get caught saying "sister" or "brother"?.
just interested, james -.

Dear Scully
Just to say - keep it up!
Your thingies (aka symbols) make me smile.
Regards.

Examining this article carefully, it's quite clear that the son was always going to rebel.
You can see from his photo that he has a worldly hairstyle (rather than a sophisticated comb-over like his father) and, of course, he's smiling.
And it's all his mother's fault - if you look at the photo of the parents in zombieland you can see that she's on a completely different page to the other two, showing dangerous individuality.
(The box advert for 'forthcoming attractions' made me smile. 'Why be truthful?' Indeed.)

Now Linda is ill!!
by dedpoet infirst it was her mum in hospital, then it was me, just for a night, though i've been ordered to rest and given 6 weeks off work, and now linda (fullofdoubtnow) is ill. she has a really bad bout of flu, which started yesterday, and i expect she'll be in bed for a few days.
i just fed her some soup, which is about all she can manage at the moment, and she's gone back to sleep now.
she sends her love to everyone on the board,i expect she will be posting again in a few days, but for now, she's confined to bed..

A Christmas Baby

Thanks, rebel.
I may print this off as well. I'm sure it would go down like a lead balloon, or a pork pie at a Jewish wedding, as we used to say.
Isn't it strange how the 'Rock of Ages' changes his mind so frequently?

Retiring today!
by iamfreenow intoday is my 60th birthday, so i am now officially retired!
actually, my last day at work was yesterday, and my colleagues gave me flowers, wine, chocolate and took me out to lunch.. this is the first birthday i've ever had as a non jehovahs witness, and it feels very strange to be even acknowledging it, let alone celebrating.
i am going out tomorrow evening with trev, linda and a few other fading or former jws for a curry at a local restaraunt, which i'm very much looking forward to.

Others will explain this better, but here goes.
The most popular type of restaurant/take-away in the UK (I think) is 'Indian' (or Bangladeshi, or similar). The 'typical' or most favourite dish in the UK is Chicken Tikka Masala. Many dishes served in Indian restaurants are unknown in the sub-continent and were created specifically for the British market.
It is a tradition (relatively recent) in the UK, especially after an evening drinking beer, to go for a 'curry', i.e. an Indian-type meal. Macho types go for the hottest, spiciest, dishes, often accompanied by much Tiger or Cobra lager.
I understand that a company somewhere in the UK is now the world's largest producer of Indian food.
HTH.

It was the lives and fate of the two existing children that caused me concern in the first place. So sad.

What proof is there that the JWs were chosen by Jehovah to be His people?
by VM44 inwhat proof is there that the jws were chosen by jehovah to be a "people for his name"?
growth in numbers is not proof, other religions also have displayed such growth over the last 100 years.. material prosperity is not proof as other religions also have considerable wealth, both in cash, property and real estate.. printing the watchtower and awake!
magazines certainly is not proof!.

None that matches up to any rational or accepted definition of the word 'proof'.
